So I decided (because I love a crazy schedule) to sign up for the RPM Challenge 2011 … To “record an album in 28 days – just because you can.”

My friend, Brian, put me onto this, and it looks right up my alley! So in my typically haphazard style, I signed up even though I’m already 9 days into Feb and the challenge started on the 1st.

I had this idea in my head while I was recording Phoenix to do a concept album about the flow of different kinds of energy… electricity, light, sound, love … And this always happens. All you want in the world is to totally focus on the one thing you need to finish, but the productivity becomes inspiring and a hundred new ideas explode in your mind like fireworks of distraction. OK…perhaps that was a bit dramatic, but if you do creative work, you totally know what I’m talking about.

Anyway… I decided I would name the project “Do Not Resist” …in reference to wiring electronics. I have included a draft of what I might use for the album art… Originally I was going to include either a circuit symbol for a simple microphone or perhaps the symbol for “do not resist”… but the images were asymmetrical and didn’t speak to me as much as the one for a piezo transducer which you can see on the artwork… Also featured in the artwork is a line drawing representation from my most recent photo shoot with Raul, Karin & Victor. In hopes that the art (and this post) would give me a feeling of the project being “real”, I threw together this design… and now I will spend the remainder of February practicing like crazy for our live show, and wildly writing/recording the songs for this project! Updates to come shortly… including a list of the 10 songs that I will write, lyrics and rough drafts!

Also stay tuned for the Remix record for Phoenix! I’m so excited about that…. OK… off I go to write! Wish me “break a leg”!
